Complete Design And Fabrication Of A Dual Wheel Wheelbarrow Project Materials (Chapters 1 to 5):

ABSTRACT

This work is on a dual wheeled barrow. A dual wheeled barrow is a small hand-propelled vehicle with twowheel, designed to be pushed and guided by a single person using two handles to the rear. The wheelbarrow includes brackets which are fixedly positioned with respect to the wheelbarrow adjacent to the front end thereof. An axle is formed of a rod with external threads, the axle having a center and opposed ends. Brackets are secured to the front legs adjacent to their lower extents with apertures for receiving the axle adjacent to its center. Cylindrical wheels are secured to the axle adjacent to the ends with tires thereon for rotation. Two internal bracket nuts are threadedly secured to the axle on opposite sides of the center in contact with the brackets at their internal faces. Two external wheel nuts are threadedly secured to the axle adjacent to their ends in contact with the wheels at their external faces. Intermediate nuts between the brackets and wheels are in contact with the external faces of the brackets and the internal faces of the wheels.

1.0 INTRODUCTION

1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

A wheelbarrow is a carrier, usually having only one wheel, consisting of a tray bolted to two handles and two legs. While known mostly as a device for carrying small loads for the household gardener, a wheelbarrow is often also used in construction and industry for carrying larger loads.

Wheelbarrow is a machine that makes use of a bowel, made of metal used in carrying loads or is a simple machine that helps us life, pull, increase direction of heavy things change the direction of force and increase force.

Wheelbarrows are extremely versatile inventions with many uses around your backyard. Some come

Two wheel wheelbarrows are more stable and can carry heavier loads which is mainly used for industrial purpose.

Two wheel wheelbarrow comes in various designs and configurations heretofore devised and utilized for the purpose of improving the stability of vehicles with improved wheel structures of various methods and apparatuses are known to consist basically of familiar, expected, and obvious structural configurations, notwithstanding the myriad of designs encompassed by the crowded prior art which has been developed for the fulfillment of countless objectives and requirements.

The wheelbarrow is designed to distribute the weight of its load between the wheel and the operator so enabling the convenient carriage of heavier and bulkier loads than would be possible were the weight carried entirely by the operator. As such it is a second-class lever. Traditional Chinese wheelbarrows, however, had a central wheel supporting the whole load. Use of two-wheel wheelbarrow is common in the construction industry and in gardening. Typical capacity is approximately 100 liters (4 cubic feet) of material.

A two-wheel type is more stable on level ground, while the almost universal one-wheel type has better maneuverability in small spaces, on planks or when tilted ground would throw the load off balance. The use of one wheel also permits greater control of the deposition of the load on emptying.

1.2 PROBLEM STATEMENT

When working in a large garden, or carry out a lot of landscaping or building jobs,it is always a difficult task carrying heavy loads using a single-wheeled barrow. To overcome this problem a two-wheeled barrow was fabricated. Two wheel barrows are better for heavy loads. This is because you have greater stability at the front, making it easier (and safer) to carry weighty or unbalanced loads.

1.3 AIM AND OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT

The main aim of this work is to design and fabricate a two-wheeled barrow. The objectives of the project are:

  1. To fabricate the machine using available materials
  2. To increased stability and efficiency of a wheel barrow.
  3. To fabricate a wheel barrow with side walls and a bottom wall having a front and a back and an open top; handles having lower ends coupled to the bottom of the container and upper ends holdable by a user; rear legs depending downwardly from the container adjacent to the rear end and positionable on the ground; front legs depending from the container adjacent to the front end; an axle formed of a rod with external threads, the axle having a center and opposed ends; brackets secured to the front legs adjacent to their lower extents with apertures for receiving the axle adjacent to its center; cylindrical wheels secured to the axle adjacent to the ends with tires thereon for rotation; two internal bracket nuts threadedly secured to the axle on opposite sides of the center in contact with the brackets at their internal faces; two external wheel nuts threadedly secured to the axle adjacent to their ends in contact with the wheels at their external faces; and intermediate nuts between the brackets and wheels in contact with the external faces of the brackets and the internal faces of the wheels.

1.4 PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT

The purpose of this work is to design a wheelbarrow with increased stability and efficiency which can be used for industrial purpose.

The production of this machine is to reduce difficulties and probably eliminate the suffering time, money, cost of man-power and most especially the need for technological break through and self-reliance which has been a major concern of the human being. Carrying of load on human head has been a tiring problem in the society from this commercial especially towards our loco-parenthesis.

It helps eradicate those problems; this project write up has been delivered into simplifications and the constructions of this machine that can be used in carrying different types of this machine that can be used in carrying different types of heavy objects to different areas.

1.5 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT

The purpose of the production of this machine is to reduce alleviate and possibly eliminate the sufferings, time, money, wastage of man-power and more especially the need for technological break-through and self reliance, which has been a major concern of the federal government.

Wheelbarrows are the wheels, allowing the pull of something to be of greater ease. There is also the way the structure of the frame allows more space in the barrow, and the balance control it maintains. The wheelbarrow is designed to distribute the weight of its load between the wheel and the operator so enabling the convenient carriage of heavier loads used in industry

Moreover, this project at hand has delved into simplicity and the construction of this machine that can be used to carry different types of heavy load to any distance in industry.

  • It permit Easy movement
  • It has Lightweight
  • It is Sturdy design

1.6  LIMITATION OF THE PROJECT

Weight distribution: Since the load lies well behind the axle and wheel, the user bears is forced to bear a lot of the load with their arms, shoulders, and back.

Stability: Pushing most loaded wheelbarrows through soft earth is virtually impossible. The same is true for pushing a heavy load up a hill.

Cost and weight: dual wheel wheelbarrow is costlier and heavier than the single wheel type.

1.7 SCOPE OF THE PROJECT

Apart from the two tyres that is made from rubber, a wheel barrow is mainly made of metal. It is produced by panel beaters and welders through a process that involves marking out, pattern development, cutting, drilling and welding. This machine uses a single wheel which make it suitable for domestic, industrial, agricultural and building-site conditions.

1.8 APPLICATIONS OF THE PROJECT

Dual wheeled barrow is used by labourers, farmers, gardeners and in industries. In industrial, dual wheeled barrow is used to convey heavy industrial tools, equipment and goods from one place to another.

1.9 USES AND APPLICATION OF A TWO-WHEELED BARROW

  • Used to carry material such as bricks, sand, products aggregate from one place to another.
  • It can be used for industrial, agricultural and building-site conditions.

1.10  TERMS AND DEFINITIONS
