ABSTRACT

This work is on mobile phone network jammer. The main purpose of this Final Year Project is designing a mobile jammer that enables user to jam the mobile devices at undesired places such as meeting room, class room, library, and worship places. The mobile device can jam all the mobile devices nearby. Therefore, it is required to design a complete system which contents power system, IF section and RF section. Basically, this device operates at GSM frequencies which are GSM900 and GSM1800. The technology behind the jammer device is that, RF section transmits signals in frequency range which is quite similar to frequency range of cell phone device. These signals which are coming out from jammer device will interface cell phone signals which results in a no network available display on cell phone screen.

CHAPTER ONE

1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Mobile phones have become essential tools for communication and information exchange in the last two decades. Many people rely on their mobile phones in their personal lives as well as their businesses. Most mobile phone users exchange very sensitive and private information using their mobile phones assuming that the mobile phone network is reliable and secure (Mohan, 2018).

In the present world every person is so engrossed in theirmobilephonesthattheycarryitthemselvesalmosteverywherewhichalsoincludestherestrictedareaslikeexamination halls, conference halls, meeting rooms, courtrooms, petrol pumps and many more places. This hampersthe privacy and security of that place. This can be preventedby installing jammers in these places, but when left activefor long time it can be dangerous for the environment as itemitsradiations (Mohan, 2018).Toovercomethisissuewecanuseadetector which activates the jammer.

GSM signal jammer is a device which blocks transmission by creating interference.

A GSM jammer is a device that transmits a signal on the same frequency at which the GSM operates. The jamming succeeds when the mobile phones in the area where the jammer is located are disabled.

In recent times, where bombs are being planted and detonated by GSM signals, this device can be at an advantage by jamming the signals required for the detonation of the bomb.

Presently, the mobile jammer devices are becoming civilian products rather than electronic warfare devices, since with the increasing number of the mobile phone users the need to disable mobile phones in specific places where the ringing or use of cell phone would be disruptive. These places include worship places, university lecture rooms, libraries, concert halls, meeting rooms, and other places where silence is appreciated.

The solution to these annoying and disrupting noises is to install a device which can block the signal transmission from mobile phones.

Jamming devices overpower the cell phone by transmitting a signal on the same frequency and at a high enough power that the two signals collide and cancel each other out. Cell phones are designed to add power if they experience low-level interference, so the jammer must recognize and match the power increase from the phone.

To jam a cell phone, all you need is a device that broadcasts on the correct frequencies (Mohan, 2018). Although different cellular systems process signals differently, all cell-phone networks use radio signals that can be interrupted. GSM, used in digital cellular and PCS-based systems, operates in the 900-MHz and 1800-MHz bands

1.2 PROBLEM STATEMENT
Due to the increasing sophistication and high technology, most people are using mobile phones. Mobile phones have become a very important communication tool today. With the use of the mobile phones everywhere, it becomes annoying device while working, studying, and praying and many more.

Modern technology has contributed to the sophistication of bombs which are being triggered by GSM (Abdul et al., 2018). To bring this problem to an end, cell phone jammer was established to stop the usage of cell phone devices in public places where the use of cellphone is highly prohibited.

1.3 AIM AND OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
The main aim of this work is to carry out a research on the cell phone service jammer which involves the restriction of the use of handset in a certain public places. The objectives are:

  • To increase security
  • To prevent cheating
  • To maintain a quiet atmosphere for your patrons

1.4 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
For school or university, by blocking cell phone signals, students cannot become distracted by their phones. In addition, they cannot cheat by sending text messages to one another during exams.

High security premises, such as prisons and detention centers, can also benefits from a jammer services because it can prevent illicit communication between inmates and visitors.

Of course, a cell phone jammer can also be beneficial in places such as a movie theater or a library where other patrons expect silence so they can enjoy their activities. Therefore, having a signal jammer can maintain some level of silence.

The reality is that signal jammers are not intended to harm. In fact, even when blocking cell phone signals, emergency services frequencies are not disturbed. So, to give yourself and your patrons the peace and quiet they deserve while still allowing those in your building or facility to remain safe.

1.5 SCOPE /LIMITATION OF THE STUDY
This work focuses on blocking the GSM signal transmission of GSM900 and 1800 MHz.  The device only can block the three main operators which are ETISALAT, MTN and GLOBACOM. This is because, the lines are only for Nigerian users and the frequency band range is between 935 to 960 MHz. These requirements fulfil the GSM900 specifications.

1.5 AREA OF APPLICATIONS OF CELL PHONE SERVICE JAMMER
Cell phone service jammer can be placed in public places where the use of phone is prohibited such as in class room, mosque, and conference hall, meeting rooms, library and many more places which need quiet and peaceful environment. This device will block the transmission of GSM signals.

1.6 METHODOLOGY
To achieve the aim and objectives of this work, the following are the steps involved:

  • Study of the previous work on the project so as to improve it efficiency.
  • Draw a block diagram.
  • Test for continuity of components and devices,
  • Design and calculation for the jammer was carried out.
  • Studying of various component used in circuit.
  • Construct a jammer circuit.
  • Finally, the whole device was cased and final test was carried out.

1.7 PROJECT WORK ORGANISATION
The various stages involved in the development of this project have been properly put into five chapters to enhance comprehensive and concise reading. In this project thesis, the project is organized sequentially as follows:

Chapter one of this work is on the introduction to a Rf GSM jammer. In this chapter, the background, significance, objective limitation and problem of aRf GSM jammer were discussed.

Chapter two is on literature review of aRf GSM jammer. In this chapter, all the literature pertaining to this work was reviewed.

Chapter three is on design methodology. In this chapter all the method involved during the design and construction were discussed.

Chapter four is on testing analysis. All testing that result accurate functionality was analyzed.

Chapter five is on conclusion, recommendation and references.
