ABSTRACT

This work entitled “Design and construction of a portable plastic welding machine. The purpose of this thesis is the design and construction of portable welding machine for welding plastic, which will have the ability to be easily transferred to areas where there may be leakage or damage to plastic in order to easy, quickly and inexpensively repair the damage.

The machine should be constructed in such a way that will be operated only by one person. They will be some plastic weldings and samples will undergo a stress test in order to assess their pressure resistance and compare them with the construction of plastic resistance value.

CHAPTER ONE

1.1                                                        INTRODUCTION

Welding is a material joining process performed by application of heat with or without pressure and addition of filler material. The applications of welding are so varied and extensive that it would be no exaggeration to say that there is no metal industry and no branch of engineering science that does not make use of welding in one form or another. Varying from small scale industry to large scale industry and from small machines to large machineries, welding is applied everywhere.

Modern methods of welding can be classified, depending on the state of the material during welding (plastic or molten state), as follows: Plastic welding or pressure welding Fusion welding or nonpressure welding. They can also be classified, depending on the source of heat. However this work focuses on plastic welding machines.

Plastic welding is welding for semi-finished plastic materials, and is described as a process of uniting softened surfaces of materials, generally with the aid of heat (except solvent welding). Welding of thermoplastics is accomplished in three sequential stages, namely surface preparation, application of heat and pressure, and cooling. Numerous welding methods have been developed for the joining of semi-finished plastic materials.  On the other hand, production of a good quality weld can not only depend on the welding methods, but also weldability of base materials. Therefore, the evaluation of weldability is of critical importance before welding operation for plastics. This Plastic Welding Machine is extensively used in different pipeline construction projects.

1.2                                             OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

Objective of this work is to construct a portable welding machine for welding plastic, which will have the ability to be easily transferred to areas where there may be leakage or damage to plastic in order to easy, quickly and inexpensively repair the damage.

1.3                                          APPLICATION OF THE PROJECT

This welding machines is used for:polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polyvinyldifuoride (PVDF), polybutene (PB), and polyvnyloride (PVC) pipes and other plastic. list of materials that can be joined include: Polycarbonate, Acrylic, Nylon.

Specific applications include sealing / welding / joining of: catheter bags, medical containers, automobile remote control keys, heart pacemaker casings, syringe tamper evident joints, headlight or tail-light assemblies, pump housings, and cellular phone parts.

1.4                                         SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT

This welding machine has reasonable design, excellent advantages, such as hot air welding of advanced electronic control set given air temperature, welding speed. Widely used in the field of thermal plastic welding, all kinds of PVC / PE / PP / PVDF and other plastic sheet, pipe, diaphragm construction site welding material, is the bath chemical tank, plastic pipe and other materials ideal for welding.

1.5                                                 SCOPE OF THE PROJECT

Plastic welding machine design of the study, with rich experience in research and development of plastic welding torch. on its own research, design, suitable for the production of different types of plastics welding for production High-quality products that provide the best guarantee.

With a leading domestic enterprises of plastic welding tools of production technology, is committed to the development and production of various types of plastics welding equipment and welding tools. Design professionals have made room, product quality inspection section, set up under the red pieces, cutting, welding, plating, surface treatment, assembly, electrical appliances such as shop.
