ABSTRACT

A touch switch is a switch that is turned on and off by touching a wire contact, instead of flicking a lever like a regular switch. Touch switches have no mechanical parts to wear out, so they last a lot longer than regular switches. Touch switches can be used in places where regular switches would not last, such as wet or very dusty areas. The device was built around a 555 timer, relay and metal plate. When the plate is touched the 555 timer is triggered and the output on pin 3 goes high turning on the relay for a certain period of time

 CHAPTER ONE

1.1                                                        INTRODUCTION

A touch switch is a type of switch that only has to be touched by an object to operate. It is used in many lamps and wall switches that have a metal exterior as well as on public computer terminals. A touchscreen in handset includes an array of touch switches on a display. A touch switch is the simplest kind of tactile sensor.

The Touch ON and OFF Switch Circuit is built around a 555 timer by making use of the default properties of the Pins of the 555 Timer IC. With the help of this circuit, you can turn ON and OFF a device by simply touching the Touch Plates.

If the touch plates are placed at a convenient location, we do not require to move from our place to turn on and off the device.

And the important feature of this circuit is that you will not get any electrical shock which we sometimes get while using the normal switches, even though we are using touch plates.

This device was designed using a 555 Timer IC. The other important components are a relay module and some touch plates.

1.2                                                   OBJECTIVE OF STUDY

The objective of this project is to construct a device which can be used to switch ON and OFF ac appliances using finger touch.

1.2                                         SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT

  1. This device is very simple to design and very soft to operate compare to other mechanical switch.
  2. And another important feature of this circuit is that you will not get any electrical shock which we sometimes get while using the normal switches, even though we are using touch plates.

1.3                            PROBLEM AND LIMITATION OF THE PROJECT

The major problem of the work is that when the touch plate is exposed to dirt or moisture the system is likely to stop working.

1.4                                                 SCOPE OF THE PROJECT

As the project is based on a Touch to ON and OFF the devices, Touch Plates or Touch Sensors are an important part of this project Basically, a touch switch is the simplest kind of tactile sensor. Described here is a touch switch circuit that operates only when you touch two conductor terminals (say, A and B) simultaneously with your fingertip. This work is built around 555 timer ic as the controller and the touch plate as the touch sensor.

1.5                                          APPLICATION OF THE PROJECT

  • A simple Touch to ON and Touch to OFF Switch Circuit is designed in this project using which, we can turn ON or OFF any device by simply touching the pads.
  • By isolating the touch plates from the actual circuit, we can create a nice looking touch controls for our appliances.
  • Touch switches are used in many lamps and wall switches that have a metal exterior as well as on public computer terminals. A touchscreen includes an array of touch switches on a display.
