An audio amplifying device such as a power amplifier cannot deliver an output wave wider than its power supply voltage. When you reach the limit, increasing gain may sound louder but sound will be distorted and can even damage speakers. This audio power level indicator circuit will announce with an LED that you have reached a particular level of an audio power.

However, the main aim of this work is to display to display three different level of an audio device via LEDs

CHAPTER ONE

1.0                                                        INTRODUCTION

1.1                            BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Audio power is the electrical power transferred from an audio amplifier to a loudspeaker, measured in watts. The electrical power delivered to the loudspeaker, together with its efficiency, determines the sound power generated.

Amplifiers are limited in the electrical energy they can output, while loudspeakers are limited in the electrical energy they can convert to sound energy without being damaged or distorting the audio signal. These limits, or power ratings, are important to consumers finding compatible products and comparing competitors.

For the course of this work which is on three level audio power indicator. The circuit has been designed for loudspeakers to provide a monitoring scheme of audio power being supplied which will determine that any setup will not be required without the presence of a power supply.

The illumination of three LEDs will serves as the means of indicating the instantaneous power output being delivered to a loudspeaker. The circuit may be connected to any loudspeaker output of an audio amplifier. The illumination of the LEDs takes place one after another due to the little by little increase in the values of the voltage. This will provide a visual notion of luminous bars that forms a column while showing the increase and decrease in height in accordance to the output level of the signal.

1.2                                   PROBLEM STATEMENT

No one can determine the power generated from an audio amplifier through their physical examination. This device was built to solve this problem in that it indicates the level of audio power via LED indicator.

1.3                                    AIM OF THE PROJECT

The aim of this work is to design a device that is attached to an audio device which monitors the level of the output power.

1.4                               PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT

The purpose of this work is to display the audio level of an audio device via LEDs

1.5                             OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

At the end of this work, student involved will be able to design this device which display three different audio power level using green, blue and orange colour LEDs

1.6                          SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT

This device is used to monitor a loudspeaker, alarm, or audio source for presence of an audio waveform. It can also be directly connected across loudspeaker terminals used as a peak indicator.

1.7                                 LIMITATION/PROBLEM OF THE PROJECT

The circuit has one drawback in that it requires a separate power supply. This is compensated, however, by the fact that it is pretty sensitive (0.2W min.) and does not degrade the sound quality in any way, since it does not present an additional load to the amplifier.

1.8                                           APPLICATIONOF THE PROJECT

This device is used in audio devices such as:

  1. Audio and power amplifier
  2. Radio receiver
  • DJ studios,
  1. cassette player ,
  2. tape recorders
  3. multimedia active speakers, etc.

1.9                                         METHODOLOGY

To achieve the aim and objectives of this work, the following are the steps involved:

  1. Study of the previous work on the project so as to improve it efficiency.
  2. Draw a block diagram.
  • Test for continuity of components and devices,
  1. Design was carried out.
  2. Studying of various component used in circuit.
  3. Construct the circuit.
  • Finally, the whole device was cased and final test was carried out.

1.10                                                      PROJECT ORGANISATION

The work is organized as follows: chapter one discuses the introductory part of the work, chapter two presents the literature review of the study, chapter three describes the methods applied, chapter four discusses the results of the work, chapter five summarizes the research outcomes and the recommendations.
